HARRISBURG – Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie) today announced that North East Borough Sewer Authority has been awarded a $12.6 million low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
“The authority is currently facing a long and expensive list of upgrades to the system and this loan will make those needed fixes possible,” said Sonney. “I am glad PENNVEST was able to recognize the importance of this project and make the loan available.”
The project will construct a pump station and force main to convey treated waste from the North East Site 2 wastewater treatment plant offshore into Lake Erie. Upgrades to the chlorination disinfection system, grease/oil removal system, replacement of a failing clarifier and a backup generator will be included.
The project will address operational issues and current effluent violations.
North East Borough Sewer Authority was selected to receive the loan at a 1% interest rate for the first five years, and a 1.743% interest rate for the duration thereafter. The entire loan term is 240 months.
Since its inception in 1988, PENNVEST has served communities and citizens of Pennsylvania by funding sewer, storm water and drinking water projects throughout the Commonwealth. These projects not only contribute to improving Pennsylvania’s environment and the health of its people, but also provide opportunities for economic growth and jobs for Pennsylvania’s workers.
