HARRISBURG - Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Harborcreek Township) today applauded the release of $1 million in state funds in support of a project to increase health service availability in southeast Erie County.
With most kids heading back to school later this month, school buses will be back on the roads during morning and afternoon commutes, so drivers need to allow extra time and be aware of how to share the road safely with buses and other school transportation vehicles.

Students today have more opportunities than ever before to prepare them for their future careers. One educational path to many lucrative jobs has been gaining traction over the past several years – career and technical education (CTE).
I am pleased to report that the General Assembly and the governor have agreed to a state budget and passed it well in advance of the June 30 deadline. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which is instrumental in the creation and negotiations involving the yearly spending plan, I was pleased with how this year’s budget came together and the areas in which we were able to prioritize additional funding, all without any tax increases.
The success of our business community has a direct correlation with the success of our state. When businesses are expanding, adding jobs and contributing more to the local and state economy, it improves the lives of families all across the state. That’s why we focus so much effort on making Pennsylvania a business-friendly state: because the trickle-down effect is so beneficial to each individual.
Life is precious; and more than 119,000 men, women and children are clearly aware of that fact as they await a life-saving organ transplant. More than 8,500 of those individuals are our friends, family members and neighbors here in Pennsylvania.
Having the correct type of identification to board an airplane or enter certain federal facilities is a concern to many Pennsylvanians who have seen and heard about REAL ID in the news and are wondering when the special ID will be available in Pennsylvania.
The state budget process can be long and arduous. This year, as in years past, the governor unveiled his state budget proposal at the beginning of February to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. He is asking for $33 billion in spending, which is $1 billion more than the current year. As a longtime member of the House Appropriations Committee, which focuses on state finances and the budget, I know we can do better than that.
HARRISBURG – Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie) today announced that 18 area fire and ambulance companies located in the 4th Legislative District are set to receive $182,930 in state grants under the Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program.

Property taxes can be a difficult burden for many to bear, especially senior citizens who are living on fixed incomes. The state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program was created to provide some measure of relief for low-income seniors and those who are disabled. The deadline to apply for the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program for the 2016 tax year is Dec. 31.

Pennsylvania is fortunate to be the benefactor of past conservationists who understood the importance of preserving land for the creation of state parks. Thanks to those efforts, the Commonwealth is home to 121 state parks, which has resulted in a state park located within approximately 25 miles from every person in the state.
