Promoting Alternative Energy

I will soon be introducing the Lake Erie Wind Energy Development Act, legislation which would permit lands within Lake Erie to be leased for the development of wind energy systems.  I believe the development of offshore alternative energy resources has significant economic development potential in addition to developing a large scale alternative energy capacity.

A study conducted last year by the Lake Erie Economic Development Corporation (LEEDCo) concluded that if 1,500 megawatts of offshore wind development occurred by the year 2030, approximately 3,000 jobs would be created and maintained.  This level of activity would generate an estimated $2.2 billion in wages, and produce $171 million in both state and local taxes.

Shopping for electricity - Many of you are receiving offers in the mail to change electric suppliers. The left bar of my website includes Shopping for Electricity, a one-stop shop for comparing electric suppliers available in the Erie area.

Bridge demolition
- PennDOT today imploded the old I-90 westbound bridge over Six Mile Creek. The demolition, at approximately 9 a.m., was accomplished with the cooperation of the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the Erie County Department of Public Safety.

Town hall meetings
We had a good discussion of the issues at last Thursday's town hall meeting in Harborcreek.

Those of you in the North East area will have a similar opportunity at this Thursday's (Sept. 29) town hall meeting, which will be held at the North East Township Building, 10300 West Main Road, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Next week, I will be holding a town hall meeting on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m., at Union City Middle/High School, 105 Concord St., Union City.
