Improving Highway Safety - Earlier this week, Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law House Bill 9, which limits the number of passengers under age 18 who can ride in a vehicle driven by a junior driver (under age 18), creates primary enforcement of the seat belt law for drivers and passengers under age 18 and increases the number of hours of practical driving experience required before a minor who holds a learner’s permit can apply for a junior driver’s license. 

Assistance with home heating
- Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will begin accepting applications for cash and crisis grants on Tuesday, Nov. 1. LIHEAP helps low-income people pay their heating bills through home energy assistance grants and crisis grants.

Applications are also available from local utility companies and community service agencies, such as Area Agencies on Aging or community action agencies.

Bridge project to be discussed - You are invited to a meeting concerning the replacement of the bridge on Sidehill Road over Twelve Mile Creek in North East Township. The meeting will held on Monday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the North East Township Municipal Building 10300 West Main Road, North East.

The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. The meeting is also to receive any public input regarding historic or archaeological sites in the area that could be affected by the project, as required by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (cultural resources).
