LIHEAP Program Accepting Applications, Says Sonney
11/7/2013
HARRISBURG – Eligible Pennsylvania residents are encouraged to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Harborcreek) said today.

LIHEAP is a grant that offers assistance in the form of a cash grant, sent directly to the utility company, or a crisis grant for households in immediate danger of being without heat. In some cases, the income limits for LIHEAP have been raised from last year.

The Department of Public Welfare has sent all LIHEAP clients who applied online last year a postcard notice encouraging them to reapply online. Prior applicants who did not apply online last year will still be mailed paper applications.

By way of the new postcard, clients will be provided with a pre-registration number, which gives them access to an online application that has already been filled out using last year’s data. Clients will simply have to ensure online information is correct and update anything that may have changed, such as an address.

All online applications are sent straight to the Erie County Assistance Office to determine eligibility, thereby eliminating mail and hand processing time. For more information or to apply online, please go to “Shopping for Energy” on Sonney’s website, www.RepSonney.com.

Questions about this or any legislative issue may be directed to Sonney’s Corry office at (814) 664-9126 or his Harborcreek office at (814) 897-2080.
